Volunteering at the Village is only limited by your imagination! Come join the Village family by helping out in one of the areas suggested below...or tell us your talents. For instance, a retired English teacher found a niche at the Village helping people we serve get their writings published in books of poetry or prose.
You have a lot to contribute, too! Contact Elin Miner, Auxiliary Services, at 641-355-1212, or e-mail her for more information.
- Friends Program
Become a friend to a person living at the Village. Activities can include visiting your friend at the Village, going on outings for meals, treats or movies, keeping in touch through phone calls, e-mails or regular mail, etc.
- Pen Pal
Keep in touch with someone from the Village by writing letters, sending cards for birthdays and holidays, or sending e-mails.
- Transportation
Assist healthcare staff in the transportation of clients to medical appointments; or transport people to church services or other church activities.
- Village General Store
Assist as a sales clerk and other various duties as needed. Volunteers generally are scheduled one morning or afternoon a week or on an on-call basis.
- Office
Assist with various office responsibilities, such as filing, making copies, preparing mailings, etc.
- Recreation
Assist with parties, swimming, bingo, board games, reading or writing letters, outings for treats, dinner or a movie, and more! Enjoy a special talent or interest with people we serve who share your interests. Volunteers also can help by assisting with setting up or serving refreshments or being a DJ for a party.
- Computers
Assist the people we serve to make computer greeting cards, play games, send emails, etc. Volunteers also can assist with Internet searches, such as helping someone find out more about their interest in dogs.
- Maintenance and Construction
Assist with small building and maintenance projects, such as building special jigs to make a job more accessible for an individual we serve; painting and minor repairs; building special projects like a display for a fair booth; and much more.
- Special events
Assist with the Village's Annual Benefit Walk, Festival of Trees, Special Olympics, and other events as they arise. For instance, you can get involved with the Festival of Trees by decorating a tree, working on a planning committee, helping with set-up, or volunteering during the event.
- Music
Play piano or guitar for worship services or for our Music Therapy department programs.
- Share your talent
Lend expertise in your special talent. Do you like to cook? Enjoy needlework? We have lots of people who enjoy these things, too, or would like to learn. Come share your interests with others.
