Green Production

Iowa is farm country, and the Village serves many people who come from farming families.  Our Green Production program maintains a large garden for produce and offers year-round paid work opportunities.

In the spring, our greenhouse allows us to start bedding plants for produce and flowers.  The bedding plants are sold to the public at the Village General Store and also used to plant the Village garden.  The garden features many varieties of tomatoes, peppers, green beans, broom corn, cabbages, and more.  The produce is used in meals at the Village and also is sold at the General Store.

In the fall, Green Production makes broom corn wreaths and fresh evergreen wreaths for sale.  People who work in this area also take orders and deliver Valentine balloons and candygrams within the Village.  During the winter, workers make rag rugs and cut rags for sale at the Village General Store.

Green Production also takes care of mowing and flower beds on the Village main campus and some satellite buildings.
