Employee Benefits
The Village offers an attractive package of benefits to employees. In addition, Opportunity Village conducts a wide array of in-house training classes which are free to employees, such as First Aid, CPR, Mandt Behavior Management, Med Aide, and more.
Here are highlights of the standard benefits*:
Health insurance

Available at group rates for full-time employees and their families at a cost of $1.92 million per year to the Village.

If both spouses work for the Village, they may purchase a family plan for the cost of two single plans.
- Includes Whole Health Dimensions wellness program for each person on the plan.
Pension plan

Must have been employed 13 months, worked 1,000 hours, and be 21 years of age to be eligible for pension.

Opportunity Village pays all plan administrative costs.

Annual Village-funded contribution, if approved by the Board of Directors.

Employees may make pre-tax contributions to the plan. New plan members automatically enrolled at 2% unless they decline; may choose to contribute any percentage desired within IRS guidelines.
- Village matches employee contributions one-for-one up to 3%; then half a percent for each additional percent up to 5%. In other words, if employee contribution is 5% of wages, the Village contributes 4%.

All dollars forfeited go to plan members (forfeitures created due to 7-year vesting schedule and plan member turnover).
CPR class
Life insurance

$10,000 term life policy for full-time employees, paid by Village.

Voluntary group term life also available up to $20,000.

Dental, disability, and accident insurance
Available at group rates through Allstate for full-time employees
Cafeteria Plan/Flexible Spending Accounts for full-time employees

Pre-tax premium withholding for medical (health & dental), accident, and disability insurance premiums.

Pre-tax medical reimbursement account (includes medical and dental/orthodontic expenses); $2,500 annual maximum.

Pre-tax dependent care reimbursement account; $5,000 annual maximum.
Vacation benefits
Based on a 40-hour-a week employee.

1-5 years of service - 10 days vacation

10 years of service and above - 20 days vacation
Holiday Pay
6 paid holidays per year for full-time employees; part-time staff must work holiday to receive holiday pay.
Sick Days
Build up 2.5 days every 6 months of employment for full-time employees; accrue up to 90 days or 720 hours.
Sick Leave Sharing Benefit
In a hardship, application may be made to receive extra sick time from other staff who donated days.
Wellness Days
Full-time employees may earn 1 additional vacation day every 6 months when no sick or other unpaid days are used.
Funeral Leave
Full-time employees may receive funeral leave when family members pass away.
Luvern Hansen Continuing Education Fund
Applications available for subsidizing tuition and books
Boyer Pool Membership
Free to Village staff and spouse and children. Swimming lessons are at the member rate of $15 per four-week session.
Iowa Heartland Credit Union
Membership available with direct deposit or deduction to various account types
YMCA Corporate Rate
Joining fee is waived for corporate members and payroll deduction is offered.
Tradehome Shoes at Southbridge Mall
10% discount
Use of the Activity Center
- Forum, conference room, classrooms: $50 deposit refunded after event pending no damages
- Gym: no deposit or fee for staff member's family functions
- Staff member's wedding: $100 refundable deposit (Forum, gym, atrium)
Jury Duty
Wages are paid while serving on jury duty. (Employers are not required by Iowa law to reimburse wages.)
Break Time
Fifteen minutes (not required by state law).
