Thornblade Awards for May and Blinkmann
Posted April 5, 2010
Donna May and Glenn Blinkmann, both of Mason City, received
Tom Thornblade Awards from Opportunity Village for outstanding job performance
in support of people with disabilities.
May is a Personal Assistant/Med Manager working through
the Village's Mason City Services office, supporting individuals who are
learning independent living skills or who receive services in their own
homes. "Donna can be kind, loving,
caring, empathetic, firm, and disciplined all in the same day," one of her
nominations said. "I've heard her
say we're not doing our individuals any favors by coddling them through
life." She also encourages good
rapport among her co-workers.
"Donna has inspired many 'first steps' with her consistent encouragement
and positive attitude and her ability to see the true capabilities of our
individuals." May started working
at the Village in 2000.
Glen Blinkmann "is one of the hardest working staff I have
ever met," his nominator said. He
was commended for being willing to do any job that is asked of him, developing
good relationships with the people in Cloud Nine Cottage where he works, and
being honest and trustworthy.
"Glenn is the nicest guy you'll ever meet," another nomination
said. "He is so calm and quiet,
but always gets the job done."
Blinkmann has been employed as a Personal Assistant since 2006.
Opportunity Village awards seven Thornblade Awards during
the year to staff members who exemplify the caring and dedication demonstrated
by the late Tom Thornblade, a longtime employee. The award is made
possible with a gift from Mr. & Mrs. Martin Koldyke.
