Northwoods Products & Services (NPS) has moved across Fort Dodge and is open in its new location at 1301 A St.

NPS, a department of Northwoods Living, a service of Opportunity Village, is renting space from LifeWorks Community Services, located on a frontage road just east of U.S. 169 across from Tom Thumb Drive Inn.

The former Northwoods Products & Services building at 12 N. 25th St., near the Crossroads Mall, has been remodeled to make way for the Fort Dodge branch of the Village General Store. The second-hand store opened Oct. 28, 2011.

Northwoods Products & Services' telephone number (515-573-5757) and fax number (515-955-2095) are unchanged.

NPS, a work activity site for adults with disabilities, makes and sells trash liners in various sizes and colors of plastic; shreds confidential documents and sells the shredding; and does sub-contract work such as assembly, sorting, collating, packaging, labeling; and light housekeeping.

"It is our belief that the cooperation and positive relationship which led to the co-location between Northwoods Living and LifeWorks, two agencies that could be considered competitors, may be unique in the state," said Linda Smith, Northwoods Living Administrator.

Smith and Teresa Naughton, Executive Director of LifeWorks, joined in expressing their mutual belief that the co-location will be advantageous and will lead to new opportunities for both agencies.

"It is fantastic to not only better use space, but to do so for the benefit of individuals with disabilities," Naughton said. "Together, we all achieve more."
