"Challenging Behavior" workshop open to families

Posted October 5, 2011
Ben Woodworth, MSW, will return to Opportunity Village to provide training on Proactive Positive Behavior Supports on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake.

Ben, from the Iowa Association of Community Providers, did a training on Brain Injury Challenges in July at the Village.  The Village's new Strategic Plan has a goal to continue offering specialized training to staff in order to improve quality of services.

We've decided to make this opportunity available to family members of people supported by the Village.

His topic this time will be "Challenging Behavior: Simple Approaches to Complex Situations."  There will be two separate presentations of the same material on Oct. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop will focus on how to develop environments and effective relationships to work successfully with people who are experiencing behavioral challenges.  Several different forms of media and presentation will be utilized, and participants will have the opportunity to actively learn new techniques and skills.

For more information or to register for the event, please contact Nelda Tesar, Training Coordinator, at 641-355-1232, or email ntesar@oppvill.org.

The church is located at 205 W. 10th Ave. N., Clear Lake, about a mile east of the main Village campus.
